Duman Lake County Park
This weekend we visited our local Duman Lake County Park and Dam. There are a variety of activities to do on the 71 acres of wooded and open space grounds. We highly recommend a visit. Read on to find out what all is available at the only county-owned recreation park found in Cambria County.
Duman Lake County Park
The quaint and clean park space adjoins the 19 acre Duman Lake. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission owns the lake. Fisherman can fish from boats or from the shore. There is even a handicap accessible dock available.
There is also a small foot trail that circles the lake. The back end of the trail can be difficult to traverse during the rainy season. The path is shaded and surrounded by trees.
Activities
Guests can rent picnic pavilions for parties and reunions. Paved roads run throughout the park allowing guests to easily reach the pavilions in the back sections.
There are fourteen pavilions ranging in size. Some are in the open while others are in the trees. Located nearby are volleyball courts, a playground, horseshoe courts, a basketball court, and a ball field area.
There are six campsites available for overnight stays. Each site is equipped with electric, water, picnic table and fire ring. Camping is available from April to October. Under normal circumstances there is a miniature train and hay rides available on weekends.
Big Changes
Big news arrived earlier this year with the announcement and ground breaking of the Ghost Town Trail extension. Very shortly there should be a trail spanning from the C&I Extension to Duman Lake County Park.
This new addition will hopefully bring in more visitors to the area. If you want to stay up-to-date on the progress, you can follow the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority page on Facebook. They are providing updates.
Over the years Duman Lake County Park has played host to several large events: dog shows, car shows and the Cambria County Arts and Heritage Festival. Safety concerns and gathering restrictions make it unclear if any events will be hosted there this year. The Heritage Festival canceled their September events for this year.
There are plenty of activities to do at Duman Lake County Park. If you are interested in visiting a portion of the nearby trail, you can read up on it here. The park is “officially” open from May to September. However visitors are welcome all year long during daylight hours. Duman Lake is a great place to go for a walk, run or even cross country skiing.
