Gettysburg Visit 2021: Part I
Happy birthday Country Fox!
This weekend Country Fox celebrated her birthday with an overnight trip to Gettysburg, PA. We love Gettysburg and are always looking for a reason to visit. Country Fox has previously covered a trip. Interested in a brief history of the town, where we stayed and ate? Read the blog here. Interested in the shops we visited and historical sites we stopped at? Read the second blog here.
Where did we stay?
This year we stayed at The Double Day Inn. The Doubleday is the only B&B located directly on the battlefield. The building itself was not here during the battle. During the battle, the property belonged to John Forney’s farm. It was part of the apple orchard. The stone wall located at the front of the house along the road is original.
The house was built in 1939 by Reverend Abram Longanecker and his wife Agnes. Abram had ties to the area having graduated in 1895 from Gettysburg College and in 1898 from the Lutheran Seminary.
The house stayed in the family until 1987 when it switched over to a Bed and Breakfast. It is currently owened and operated by Greg and Sue Rosensteel. There are nine guest rooms and plenty of history in the house. There are some lovely sitting areas outside the house that guests can use. From these areas guests can look out at the battlefield. There are 42 monuments with in a 1/4 mile of the Inn.
Shops
One of the best things about Gettysburg is the amount of unique shops it has available. We visited our favorite shops as usual. If you are interested in which shops those are please read the previous Gettysburg post.
Gallery 30
This massive store is owned, managed and operated by women. Gallery 30 supports independent American artists. Almost all of the products are made in the USA by local artisans.
This store carries large variety of crafts. Gourds of all shapes and sizes adorn walls and shelves. Beautiful jewelry glitters on counters. Unique signs cover the walls.
The Gallery has a fascinating history. I recommend checking out their page to find out more. Find them on Facebook here.
So what did we buy? A cute little Halloween themed gourd, though it was hard to choose.
Meltabees
This quaint little shop sells all things bees and honey. The shop itself is small, but it is open and well organized. Shoppers can find honey, lip balm, soap and more.
Want to learn why bees are important? Read my blog here.
Lavender and Sage Metaphysical Shoppe
This shop is new this year to Gettysburg. The shop has as a wide variety of crystals and crystal related goods. Jewelry, decorations amongst other things. This store does have one unique feature. A massive amount of herbs, teas, coffee and spices. They have shelves full of dried herbs. I purchased some herbs I can use making tea. Interested in learning more about the shop? Visit their Facebook page here.
