Malcotti’s Tavern in Twin Rocks -Game Feast
This weekend I visited Malcotti’s Tavern in Twin Rocks for their annual Game Feast. My day was full of good homemade food, cheap beer and fantastic music.
Malcotti’s Tavern has been a fixture of the area for decades. It is a quaint little bar situated in the small town of Twin Rocks. As a result, anyone can walk in and feel welcome and at home. Malcotti’s hosts several events through out the year. For instance, each Thursday is trivia night and the third Friday of the month is the Traditional Musical Circle.
This Saturday was their Annual Game Feast. Hunting is quite a big deal in Pennsylvania, therefor it isn’t uncommon for rural areas to host a Game Feast or a Hunters Feast. Malcotti’s Game Feast combines the bounty of generous local hunters and a talented list of musicians to create a free all-day event.
Food and Drink
The food was provided by local hunters. There were dishes such as Venison Meatballs, Goose Bologna, Venison Jerky, Smoked Trout, Pheasant, Venison Taco Salad, pickled eggs, side dishes and desserts. The beer mug shaped sugar cookies were particularly good.
Malcotti’s had a variety of drinks available. Water, soda, mixed drinks were available. Bottles of Corona, Yuengling, Budweiser, Miller and Coors as well as their Lite versions were available. All the drinks were pretty cheap.
Music
There were six bands listed to play. All the music played on Saturday was in the same vein. Bluegrass and folk music was the most common. Some country was sprinkled in the mix too.
Tree was the second band to play. They are a local group hailing from Johnstown. Their group blends traditional Irish, Celtic rock, bluegrass and old-time music. Saturday saw two members of the group playing the fiddle and guitar. Tree can be seen playing around the area throughout the year. You can check them out on Facebook or on their website Tree the Band.
All the bands were wonderful and you may be interested in finding out where they are playing next. This may be hard to do however, besides Tree and the Gordon Glen Band, the others don’t have Facebook pages or websites of their own.
I would recommend any one interested in this event follow Malcotti’s on Facebook. Therefore next year their Game Feast will pop up on your wall. If, dear reader you are looking for a micro brew experience then I recommend checking out my post about Coal Country and maybe paying them a visit.
